Requirements

What you should have before you apply

Requirements vary depending on the specialization and the specific offer. Below is a list of the basic documents and skills needed to start construction work in the Netherlands.

Required

  • Professional experience in the relevant specialization — at least 2 years
  • Current VCA Basic or VCA VOL certificate (Veiligheid Certificaat Aannemers)
  • Valid passport or ID card
  • Polish professional qualifications confirmed by exam (e.g. EN ISO 9606-1 for welders)
  • Willingness to cooperate under the ZZP or A1 model
  • Conversational English or Dutch (preferred, not required in every offer)

Nice to have

  • Additional industry certifications (e.g. VSB for scaffolders, SEP for electricians)
  • Experience working in an international environment
  • Category B driving licence (for some projects)
  • Active A1 certificate or willingness to obtain one
  • Own hand tools (for some specializations)

Model 1

ZZP — self-employment in the Netherlands

Zelfstandige zonder personeel — your own business activity in the Netherlands

    What are the rates for construction work in the Netherlands?

    What documents do I need to work in the Netherlands?
    For legal work in the Netherlands you need: an A1 certificate of social insurance coverage (for A1 cooperation), the Dutch tax identification number BSN, a current VCA certificate (Veiligheid Certificaat Aannemers), Polish professional qualifications confirmed by exam (e.g. EN ISO 9606-1 for welders), and a valid passport or ID card.     What’s the difference between the ZZP and A1 cooperation models?
    ZZP (zelfstandige zonder personeel) is the Dutch form of self-employment — you register your business at the Chamber of Commerce KvK, issue invoices and settle your own taxes. A1 is a model where you remain insured in the Polish social security system ZUS and work in the Netherlands based on the A1 certificate issued by ZUS in Poland. The choice depends on your professional situation and financial preferences — we’ll help you decide.
    How long does the recruitment process take?
    The standard process from sending the CV to the first day of work takes on average 5–7 working days. After receiving your application the coordinator gets in touch within one working day. Then we run a short interview, match an offer to your qualifications, put together the documents and arrange transport to the site.
    Can I count on Polish-speaking support while working in the Netherlands?
    Yes. Every worker is assigned a Polish-speaking coordinator available Monday to Friday, 8:00–18:00. The coordinator helps with formalities, contact with the Dutch employer and any situations requiring a quick response.
    What certifications are required to work in the construction sector in the Netherlands?
    The basic requirement is a VCA Basic or VCA VOL certificate — documents confirming knowledge of occupational safety rules in the construction sector. In addition, depending on specialization: welders need EN ISO 9606-1 certification, scaffolders VSB qualifications, electricians the Polish SEP qualifications. If you don’t have a current VCA, we can advise where and how to obtain one.
    Do I have to know Dutch?
    No — in most of our offers Dutch is not required. Communication on site is most often in English or in a mixed international team. Conversational English is welcome in many offers. A Polish-speaking coordinator is always available if translation is needed.
    What happens if the offer turns out not to match my expectations?
    All terms — rate, specialization, location, contract duration — are clearly set out before the contract is signed. If problems still arise during the work, you contact the coordinator, who helps resolve the situation. In special cases we can propose switching to a different project matching your qualifications.
